Clinic Sofia Welcomes New Doctors
In response to growing demand and interest, Clinic Sofia is pleased to welcome two new doctors to our team and family. In addition to Dr. Deborah Krahl, who joined Clinic Sofia earlier this month, Dr. Erin Smith and Dr. David Clay will both begin seeing patients in August.
Dr. Smith “always knew that I wanted to be a doctor” and enjoys being a confidante for women, recognizing “the importance of having someone to comfortably confide in about sensitive issues without feeling judgment.”
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Smith is deeply interested in legislation affecting women’s health. As a recipient of the prestigious Gellhaus Residency Advocacy Fellowship, she has had the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. to learn about policy and political factors influencing the future of obstetrics and gynecology. Born in Faribault, she grew up in Red Wing and attended Carleton College in Northfield. She also worked at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for a year before medical school at the University of Minnesota. After completing her residency in Delaware, she happily returned to her home state to work with Clinic Sofia.
Ask Dr. David Clay what he loves most about being an OBGYN doctor, and he’ll tell you it’s the opportunity to get to know his patients over time. From delivering babies and being part of one of the happiest days of a patient’s life to providing ongoing care and support, he cherishes the relationships he is able to develop with his patients: “It is very rewarding to me to be more than a doctor to my patients, to be part of their family and to be an important part of their lives.”
A native of Ohio, Dr. Clay completed his residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after attending The Ohio State University College of Medicine; he earned his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He looks forward to exploring the Twin Cities with his wife and taking advantage of the great outdoors.
“Thanks to many of our wonderful patients, we have had extensive referrals and interest in our personalized approach to women’s healthcare. We are happy to add new staff members and expand our Clinic Sofia family so that we can grow our community of healthy women…now we are able to accommodate more patients so we hope that you will continue to spread the word about Clinic Sofia to your family members, friends and others who may be searching for a doctor,” said Dr. Donna Block.
