Ask Sofia: What should I expect in my annual exam?
This is a great question and is important when it comes to scheduling your next exam.
Also known as a well visit, your annual exam will encompass your current health status, a breast and pelvic exam, general check of height/weight/blood pressure, information on vaccinations, potentially a Pap test, and a chance to discuss topics from birth control to mammograms to menstruation to family history. This preventative and diagnostic exam provides an annual health baseline and a chance to connect with your doctor.
Sometimes, we will recommend follow-up testing such as mammograms or bone-density screenings. Likewise, you may need to schedule a separate issue-based appointment to discuss things such as hormone concerns, urinary problems, pregnancy/fertility, mental health or menopause issues. These topics can require additional time for discussion, testing and treatment, which is why a dedicated appointment is important.
“If you have questions about what type of appointment to schedule or what to expect at your next appointment, just let us know,” said Dr. Jewelia Wagner. “We want to ensure that you are as comfortable and confident as possible going into and out of each and every appointment at Clinic Sofia, and we always look forward to catching up and reconnecting with you!”
To prepare for your next exam, try to schedule the appointment between periods if applicable.
