Putting More Fun in Your Schedule
While it often feels like you’re fast-forwarding to the end of summer when August rolls around, there is still much to celebrate: sunshine and the State Fair, mouth-watering tomatoes and strawberries, family time and maybe even a little downtime before the rush of fall. If you’re looking for some ideas for adding end-of-summer fun to your schedule, look no further!
• Get out! Get out of the house (and away from your TV and computer) and get out of your rut by doing something different. Go to a museum, walk in a new neighborhood, sign up for that activity you’ve always wanted to try, or plan a night at a new restaurant, a comedy club or somewhere you’ve never been.
• Get a makeover. Sure, you can splurge at the salon, which is always fun, but you can also trade services with a friend, get a blow out at a local blow dry bar or even a low-cost pedicure. Sometimes a simple change in your look can brighten your entire outlook.
• Get your sexy back. Summer is sizzling, so why shouldn’t your sex life? Read an inspiring book, try a new location or plan a secret rendezvous with your special someone.
• Get creative. Try a new and interesting recipe, write a poem or paint a picture, take your kids on a scavenger hunt or organize all of those pictures you’ve been meaning to put into a scrapbook for the last year. Tapping into your creative impulse can lend a feeling of fun to any occasion.
• Be kind. Random acts of kindness—buying coffee for the next person in line, delivering cookies to your neighbor, sending a note of thanks and appreciation—can make you feel even better than the recipient.
And take a break from doing anything you don’t love or need to do: Focus on the things that fill you up rather than pull you down and make a point of enjoying the day, the month and the rest of the year.
