Get to know: Dr. Amy Hammers
Dr. Amy Hammers joined Clinic Sofia last month, coming back home to Minnesota to be with her family after receiving her medical degree at Creighton University and completing her residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She looks forward to welcoming new patients and helping women understand more about their bodies and obstetrics: “As a provider, my job goes beyond medical care. I love being an advocate, supporter and educator for women, too. The emotional dynamic of working with women and their unique personalities gives me something to look forward to every day.”
Nutrition
A healthy body starts with the right food and activity. Balancing your diet will ensure that your body is getting everything it needs for strong bones, immune system, organs, and mental health. Every woman’s body is unique. A diet that may work for one person may not be right for another.
Lifestyle Coaching
Lifestyle coaches may help you achieve your wellness goals. Whether you are trying to quit smoking, obtain and maintain a healthy weight, or deal with stress, a supportive lifestyle coach can work with you to make better choices for your health.
Immunizations
Immunizations are not only important for children; they are necessary for adults as well, especially as you age. If you have not received certain vaccinations through adulthood, now may be a good time to talk to your healthcare provider about immunizations.
Food Safety
Make sure your food is prepared safely to avoid foodborne illness. This is especially important for pregnant women, who are at higher risk for Listeria and parasites due to a weakened immune system. Luckily, you can take measures to keep yourself and others safe.
Depression
Depression can be a result of life events, seasons, work stress, finances, or a strained relationship. It’s natural to feel a little blue, fatigued or empty from time to time. However, if your brief bout of sadness or tiredness deepens, begins to interfere with your daily life or leads to loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, you may be experiencing depression.
