What We are Thankful for This Year
The month of Thanksgiving always offers the perfect opportunity to pause, reflect and give thanks for all of the big and small wonders in our life.
“We are truly thankful for all of our patients, for your trust, for sharing important moments in your lives, and for your conversations and inspiration,” said Dr. Donna Block. “Clinic Sofia is a wonderful place to work because of the amazing people we are fortunate to see and connect with every day.”
Beating the Winter Blues
he days following Daylight Saving Time feel short – and for a good reason: We’re on a slow crawl toward the shortest day of the year, the Dec. 21 winter solstice with less than nine hours of daylight. If it’s dark when you drive to school or work and dark when you return home again, it’s natural to feel a little tired or wistful for summer’s long days.
How to Beat Burnout
It’s that time of year: school, sports, parties, busy work schedules, shorter days, even social events can start to feel like a chore when you’re overscheduled and feeling tired, overwhelmed or depleted. While it might seem like putting yourself – your health, your needs and interests – on the backburner is the easiest thing to do when you’re beyond busy, lack of self-care always has consequences.
Ask Sofia: What are fibroids?
Affecting nearly one-quarter of women at some point, fibroids are benign growths on the uterus that often appear during or after childbearing years. They can be as small as a pea and as large as a melon. Fortunately, fibroids are not linked to an increased cancer risk and they rarely develop into cancer.
Get to know: Dr. Amy Hammers
Dr. Amy Hammers joined Clinic Sofia last month, coming back home to Minnesota to be with her family after receiving her medical degree at Creighton University and completing her residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She looks forward to welcoming new patients and helping women understand more about their bodies and obstetrics: “As a provider, my job goes beyond medical care. I love being an advocate, supporter and educator for women, too. The emotional dynamic of working with women and their unique personalities gives me something to look forward to every day.”
Nutrition
A healthy body starts with the right food and activity. Balancing your diet will ensure that your body is getting everything it needs for strong bones, immune system, organs, and mental health. Every woman’s body is unique. A diet that may work for one person may not be right for another.
