Our Favorite Holiday Traditions
At Clinic Sofia, we love the holiday season (including beautiful cards from our patients!) and any reason to celebrate. As the holidays approach, we asked our staff to share some of their favorite traditions, which we now share with you:
Katie Sexe, Clinic Administrator: As a joke several years ago, someone in my family took a banana, wrapped it up as a present and put in under the Christmas tree. The trick is to make it look like an actual gift so you don’t realize when it’s your year to receive the banana. We like to change up the “to/from” each year so one year it might be to grandpa from his grandson and the next to my husband from his sister-in-law. The tradition has continued every year and it’s still hilarious every time!
Jane Jorgensen, Medical Assistant: As kids we were never allowed to go downstairs to the living room to see if Santa came until everyone was awake. So we would wake everyone up, sit at the top of the stairs and my dad would have to go downstairs and check the stockings to see if Santa came. If Santa came he would sing ‘Joy to the World’ at the top of his lungs and we would all run down the stairs and start Christmas morning. However, if Santa didn’t come he would sing ‘It’s a Sad Time in the Old Town’ and we would all have to go back to bed for the day. Of course, Santa always came but as a kid I remember being SO nervous that he wouldn’t sing ‘Joy to the World.’ I am so excited to do this tradition with my own family once Andy and I have our own kids!
Allie Nowak, Physician Assistant: My family is German, and for at least the past five generations, our family always has Saltimbocca for Christmas and it is a favorite. I have included the recipe below.
Saltimbocca
Pound out 4 chicken breasts ¼” thick.
Top each piece with:
–1 tsp. melted butter
–1 tsp. ketchup
–thin slice of ham
–grated mozzarella cheese
Roll chicken breast up like a jelly roll.
Dip in butter and coat with bread crumbs. Hold together with toothpicks.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
