Welcome Dr. Staci Biegner
We are so excited to welcome Dr. Staci Biegner to the Clinic Sofia team! You will find Dr. Biegner, who recently completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine after earning her medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine, at both clinics starting this September, after she and her husband relocate from Jacksonville, Fla. In the meantime, you can get to know Dr. Biegner a little bit better.
How did you choose OBGYN as a specialty? What aspects of the job do you most enjoy?
Ultimately, I chose OBGYN as a specialty because I can be a woman’s health advocate. Providing prenatal care and helping patients achieve their family goals is a unique process that needs to be approached with care and differentiation. OBGYN combines all of my favorite parts of medicine: continuity of care with patients, the ability to address medical problems surgically when medications are insufficient and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients.
Within OBGYN, my special interests include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, including robotic surgery, well-woman care and preventative medicine, and ensuring a collaborative, holistic approach to peripartum care.
How would your patients describe you? How would you describe yourself as a physician?
My patients would describe me as a compassionate, dedicated physician who takes time to listen to their unique problems, one who explains treatment options in a way they can understand, and who works with each person to come to a solution as a team.
I would describe myself as a patient-centered physician who is passionate about providing high-quality, evidence-based health care, as well as a strong patient advocate, especially when it comes to needs specific to women’s health.
What brought you to Clinic Sofia?
While my husband and I grew up in Northeast Florida, we both spent many summer and winter vacations visiting our families and relatives in Minnesota. When I learned that Dr. Amy Hammers, an Alumni from my residency program with a superb reputation, worked in Minnesota, I was eager to learn more about Clinic Sofia. The high standards of their health care model and the amazing physician team made the decision very clear for me that this was where I wanted to practice. I love the foundation of Clinic Sofia, which is focused on women as individuals who function as the center of family, community and many work places.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to take care of the women of Edina and Maple Grove. My husband, Will, accepted a position as a Radiation Oncologist at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System. We have always loved the Minneapolis area so we are eager to relocate and experience the city, people and vastly different weather.
Fun fact: Both of my parents grew up in Minnesota. My dad went to high school in Willmar, and my mom went to high school in Minnetonka.
What have you learned over the past 18 months while supporting women through a global pandemic?
The past 18 months have reaffirmed that every person has their own unique struggles. For me, these challenging times have emphasized the necessity of collaboration and the importance of community. Families, friends, healthcare workers and each part of the health care team are all essential to supporting individuals through difficult circumstances. The COVID-19 pandemic brought to light the opportunities physicians have to support their patients. When the hospitals were closed to visitors, we were immediately there to provide support, a kind touch and a warm smile underneath our masks. For me, the past 18 months have realigned and prioritized the humanistic side of medicine.
What do you most enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and friends. My husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants, following local sports teams, kayaking, hiking and traveling.
