Get to know: Dr. Amy Hammers
Dr. Amy Hammers joined Clinic Sofia last month, coming back home to Minnesota to be with her family after receiving her medical degree at Creighton University and completing her residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She looks forward to welcoming new patients and helping women understand more about their bodies and obstetrics: “As a provider, my job goes beyond medical care. I love being an advocate, supporter and educator for women, too. The emotional dynamic of working with women and their unique personalities gives me something to look forward to every day.”
Here are some fun facts about Dr. Hammers:
Family: My husband and I have two cats – Maverick and Goose (named after my husband’s favorite movie!). Most of my extended family also lives in Minnesota as well, which is one of the major reasons I was excited to move back “home.”
What things do you enjoy doing outside of work? My husband and I love to travel. I spend a lot of time at my parent’s house on Little McDonald Lake in Perham. I also like to cook and bake for family and friends.
Favorite travel destination? We just got back from a trip to the Maldives which was so beautiful. I have never seen a tropical beach that breathtakingly gorgeous – it was like a movie.
What do you like about the Twin Cities? I love all things about Minnesota (even the winter – but don’t ask me in February)! The thing I like the most is that my family is close by. I also love that there are a TON of things to do – sport teams to support in every season of the year (go WILD!), lots of concerts, great restaurants and performing arts opportunities.
Favorite book(s)? I love the Hunger Games series, but I’m not a fan of the movies!!
If I weren’t a doctor….I would own a Caribou Coffee franchise. I’ve been obsessed with Caribou Coffee forever – my husband is convinced it’s the reason we moved back to Minnesota from Florida.
Something you may not know about me: I’ve traveled to 19 different countries!
