Women supporting women
All women know that having a period can be unpleasant. Imagine having to experience that time of the month without reliable access to pads and tampons, clean underwear or safe bathrooms – resources many of us take for granted. That is unfortunately the reality for women experiencing homelessness or who are displaced from their homes due to domestic violence. During the month of Thanksgiving, Clinic Sofia is hoping that those of us who have a lot to be thankful for can come together to give to the women who need it most.
Throughout November, we will be collecting donations of period products – pads, tampons, panty liners, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, underwear, chocolate and anything else you think a woman might need to help make her period a little easier – in boxes at both our Edina and Maple Grove offices. The first week in December, we will open up our Edina office to patients, family and friends to help assemble the donations into individual bags – “Crimson Kits” – containing the items necessary for an average woman’s period for one month. The Crimson Kits will be donated to People Serving People and the Tubman Center to distribute to the women these wonderful organizations serve.
“A small donation can make a big difference in someone else’s month and life,” said Dr. Erin Stevens, who is coordinating the drive. “Thank you in advance for your donations of time, money and products. We are honored to have such a caring community at Clinic Sofia.”
