“Be Your Best Self” Event
Clinic Sofia is so proud to be working with TeamWomen, a Twin Cities-based leadership organization that brings women together for unique networking and educational events. We recently hosted the first of two “Be Your Best Self” events where Physician Assistant Allie Nowak, Dr. Amy Hammers and Dr. David Clay discussed “common concerns among young professionals.”
Allie’s Corner: The Calorie Myth
ou probably recognize that 200 calories worth of pasta isn’t exactly the same thing as 200 calories of salmon. Without even thinking about it, your body can probably feel the difference between an afternoon snack of an apple and almond butter versus a super-size candy bar. In fact, calories from nutrient-dense whole foods impact our bodies and moods differently than those from nutrient-poor processed foods.
How to strengthen your pelvic floor
One-third of women suffer from pelvic floor issues such as incontinence, prolapse and weakness, according to the National Institutes for Health, often following pregnancy and childbirth. They can be painful, embarrassing and frustrating, to say the least. The somewhat mysterious pelvic floor consists of the muscles, ligaments, nerves and tissues that support your uterus, bladder and bowel. When the pelvic floor isn’t functioning optimally, these areas often struggle as well. Not only do they help you hold urine in, pelvic floor muscles are also critical to sexual pleasure, supporting babies during pregnancy, low back health and more.

But it doesn’t have to end there. “Spring cleaning for the soul” can take this seasonal renewal to the next level.

While it is particularly critical when you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant, folic acid supports growth and development in the body – supporting your overall health.
