Staci Biegner, MD
07.27.2015Completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology during a pandemic gave Dr. Staci Biegner a unique perspective on health care:
“For me, these challenging times have emphasized the necessity of collaboration and the importance of community. The pandemic brought to light the opportunities physicians have to support their patients. When the hospitals were closed to visitors, we were immediately there to provide support, a kind touch and a warm smile underneath our masks. For me, that time realigned and prioritized the humanistic side of medicine.”
While Dr. Biegner grew up in Northeast Florida, her parents are both Minnesotans, and she spent many summer and winter vacations visiting family in Minnesota. She immediately connected with the team Clinic Sofia, recognizing that“The high standards of their health care model and the amazing physician team made the decision very clear for me that this was where I wanted to practice. I love the foundation of Clinic Sofia, which is focused on patients as individuals who function as the center of family, community and many work places.”
Dr. Biegner chose OBGYN as a specialty “because I can be a woman’s health advocate. It combines all my favorite parts of medicine, including continuity of care and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients." Within OBGYN, her special interests include prenatal care and family planning, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, well-woman care and preventative medicine, and ensuring a collaborative, holistic approach to peripartum care. Dr. Biegner is a patient-centered physician passionate about providing high-quality, evidence-based healthcare and a strong patient advocate. Her patients describe her as a “compassionate, dedicated physician who takes time to listen to their unique problems, explains treatment options in a way they can understand and works with each person to come to a solution as a team.” Outside of work, Dr. Biegner loves spending time with family and friends, trying to new restaurants, following local sports teams, kayaking, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her dog, Winnie. Her husband, Will, is a Radiation Oncologist at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System.David Clay, MD
07.13.2017Ask Dr. David Clay what he loves most about being an OBGYN doctor, and he’ll tell you it’s the opportunity to get to know his patients over time. From delivering babies and being part of one of the happiest days of a patient’s life to providing ongoing care and support, he truly cherishes the personal relationships he is able to develop with his patients.
“It is very rewarding to me to be more than a doctor to my patients, to be part of their family and to be an important part of their lives.”
While Dr. Clay enjoys working with patients in all areas of obstetrics and gynecology, he particularly enjoys helping people who are struggling with fertility issues to not only determine a cause of the problem but also to work towards achieving the ultimate goal of having a child. Additionally, he also likes to perform minimally invasive gynecologic surgeries. Above all, he greatly appreciates the opportunity to help people be advocates for their own care, another reason he fits right in with the staff at Clinic Sofia.“I am happy to join a team that holds the same values I do, to help women stay healthy by taking a very personalized and empowering approach to their care.”
A native of Ohio, Dr. Clay completed his residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after attending The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Dr. Clay enjoys exploring the Twin Cities’ dining and activity scenes with his wife and children and spending time outdoors walking, hiking, biking, and taking pictures. He also enjoys caring for his pet rabbit Bessie.Amy Hammers, MD
08.17.2015Amy studied to become a Doctor of Medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine. After completing her residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine, she came back home to Minnesota to be close to family. OB/Gyn care fascinates Amy and she loves being there during key moments in her patients' lives.
"As a provider, my job goes beyond medical care. I love being an advocate, supporter, and educator for women, too. The emotional dynamic of working with women and their unique personalities gives me something to look forward to every day."
Amy's patients appreciate her ability to listen to both their concerns and stories. Medical terms can be tough to understand without going to medical school, which is why Amy frequently uses analogies to help her patients understand their body. She also enjoys the complexity of surgery and handling high-risk obstetrics with care. In addition to caring for her patients, Amy loves to travel when able - her mission trips to both the Dominican Republic and Peru helped her provide care for women and families in need. Her two young boys keep her very busy most days, and she also loves to read and stay active on her Peloton!Pam Jordi, MD
08.17.2015Dr. Pamela Jordi made a “decision of the heart” when she decided to explore reproductive healthcare. She loved her OB-GYN rotation during her third year of medical school and became incredibly passionate about the specialty. She values the “opportunity to connect with people in every stage of life and treat their whole needs.” She fostered this passion during a month at the Institute for Latin American Concern in the Dominican Republic providing health care at local hospitals and free clinics, and she also volunteered at free women’s health clinics in Omaha, and provided testing and education for inmates at the Douglas County Corrections Facility. Though, the most rewarding experience arose from two healthy pregnancies and raising two boys.
“I now have even more appreciation and respect for the labor process and how mothers and parents have that overwhelming feeling of wanting a healthy outcome.”
Drawn to Clinic Sofia for its patient-centered approach and personalized feel, Dr. Jordi enjoys early pregnancy assessment, surgical management, and serving as a resource. Essentially, she loves “all of it” and appreciates how Clinic Sofia feels like family. Born and raised in Centerville, Minn., Dr. Jordi moved to Omaha after graduating from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Biology and minor in Spanish. Dr. Jordi graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine, where she completed a Healer’s Art Program and earned a Dean’s scholarship. She completed her residency at University of Nebraska Medical Center. She has since moved back home to be closer to family and noting that “there is an unmatched tranquility and beauty about Minnesota nature and lakes.” She still loves everything about the water, including water skiing, swimming, ice skating, and scuba diving as well as spending time with her family and dog, Bailey. She often spends time with her husband and sons exploring local restaurants, and at the family cabin as well.Jewelia Wagner, MD
08.17.2015Dr. Jewelia Wagner embodies the philosophy of Clinic Sofia with a keen interest in helping her patients be as healthy as they can be. She was actually leaning towards a career in internal medicine, up until her third year of medical school, when she did her first obstetrics and gynecology rotation:
“I had no idea I’d like it so much, but I absolutely loved working with women, hearing their stories and connecting with them. Even though it wasn’t part of my original plan, I knew.”
Her favorite parts of the job? “I love delivering babies, and I love doing surgical procedures and being able to help women,” she adds. Prior to medical school, Dr. Wagner's varied background included work as a pharmacy technician, volleyball coach and phlebotomist. As a competitive athlete, she has also studied the role of exercise in pregnancy. Her patients describe her as energetic, compassionate and a great teacher, who can make even the most complex anatomy easy to understand, which might be why she earned a “First Year Resident Teaching Award” while doing her residency at the University of Kansas. When she’s not working, Dr. Wagner loves running (and racing), volunteering as a volleyball coach and spending time with husband and four daughters.Sarah Iverson, MSPAS, PA-C, CLE
