Help Create Crimson Kits for Area Women in Need
10.26.2017All women know that having a period can be unpleasant. Imagine having to experience that time of the month without reliable access to pads and tampons, clean underwear or safe bathrooms – resources many of us take for granted. That is unfortunately the reality for women experiencing homelessness or who are displaced from their homes due to domestic violence. During the month of Thanksgiving, Clinic Sofia is hoping that those of us who have a lot to be thankful for can come together to give to the women who need it most. Learn more here.

Read Dr. Stevens’ Published Research in Healthcare for Women International
09.14.2017Clinic Sofia’s Dr. Erin Stevens completed a research project on birth spacing and postpartum contraception in India that was recently published in Healthcare for Women International. Through her research, Dr. Stevens found that simply having healthy goals is often not enough if one is not utilizing the appropriate tools to achieve them. For instance, making a plan for postpartum contraception is a big step in maintaining good health for both women and their children. The study also helped confirm that it is important for each woman to learn about the wide scope of contraceptive methods in order to determine which is best for her. “I have always been passionate about contraception. The ability to choose if and when to have children is crucial for women’s health and success,” said Dr. Stevens. “Certainly, there are barriers that exist for womeneverywhere in obtaining the method of contraception that suits them best, and it is helpful to examine what these barriers are and how we can overcome them.” Dr. Stevens also has a deep interest in international health, which lead her to use her elective time during her third year of residency to complete a project joining these interests. She was able to connect with researchers at a site in India where her residency program had had a longstanding relationship. This ultimately led to a month-long experience in India during which she worked on this project. Click here to read “Family Planning in Southern India: A Survey of Women’s Attitudes.”
