National Menopause Awareness Month
While a celebration isn’t the first thing most women think of when they consider menopause, National Menopause Awareness Month in September encourages women to embrace this phase, rather than just suffering from its symptoms. At Clinic Sofia, we are proud to support women at every life stage and offer resources and support for women experiencing menopause and pre-menopause.
“Many women dread this time, but we like to see it as an opportunity to renew and reset. Women can use this transition as a chance to take stock of their lives, their goals and their health, make some healthy changes and be inspired to try new things,” said Dr. Donna Block, founder of Clinic Sofia with location in Edina and Maple Grove. “It may not always feel like it, but menopause is a celebration of a women’s life.” The goal of National Menopause Awareness Month is to educate more people about menopause and shine a light on innovations in menopausal science and technology.
Clinic Sofia encourages patients to be proactive about managing menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, metabolism changes, sleeplessness and fatigue. Menopause can start as early as the late 30s, so the more you know, the better prepared you will be to handle any issues.
“Just as every woman is different, every woman can experience menopause a little differently, and we are always happy to talk and listen when it comes to your specific symptoms and concerns,” Dr. Block added. “And know fear or anxiety about menopause is completely normal and it can take time to understand and accept these changes and feelings.”
Treatment for menopause symptoms can include lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise, hormone replacement therapy, vitamins, medications, and focused relaxation and deep breathing.
