Permanent Sterilization
Clinic Sofia offers Essure, a permanent birth control procedure. It consists of placing a small flexible coil into the fallopian tubes to block them. Over the course of three months, tissue naturally forms around the coils. You will have a follow-up appointment to confirm the success of this procedure. Essure is the most effective sterilization method and it can be performed in Sofia’s Edina and Maple Grove offices.
Laparoscopic tubal ligation is another method of permanent sterilization. Tubal ligation involves disconnecting the fallopian tubes from the uterus with the help of two small incisions in the abdomen.
Your caregiver may also counsel you for vasectomy. This form of permanent birth control is for males. Vasectomy seals the vas deferens, which is the tube for sperm to enter the semen. Ejaculation still occurs as normal, but the sperm cells are naturally reabsorbed by the body. Clinic Sofia does not perform vasectomy, but we will refer you to a certified clinic.
