After completing a rigorous Harvard-affiliated training program in Boston, Dr. Maryama Ismail is, as they say, “wicked smaht”. Dr. Ismail brings both clinical excellence and heartfelt dedication to her OB/GYN practice. She earned her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology through an integrated program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Now, she’s thrilled to return to Minnesota and serve the community she came to know and love during medical school. Dr. Ismail provides full-spectrum OB/GYN care with a strong focus in both obstetrics and gynecology. Her clinical interests include prenatal care, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery such as hysterectomies, and in-office procedures.

“My passion for OB/GYN stems from the privilege of being present during some of the most important moments in a person’s life — whether it’s helping individuals on their fertility journey, welcoming a new baby or helping someone feel whole and healthy again,” says Dr. Ismail.
“I strive to be the kind of physician who listens deeply, empowers patients with knowledge, and creates a safe space for shared decision-making.”

Patients often describe Dr. Ismail as warm, approachable, and easy to talk to. “I want every patient to feel like they’re being cared for by someone who genuinely sees them — not just their medical concerns, but who they are as people,” she shares. “Building trust through kindness and connection is just as important to me as providing excellent clinical care.”

Conversationally fluent in Somali, Dr. Ismail is deeply committed to providing culturally sensitive, inclusive care. She takes pride in building trust with Minnesota’s Somali community while welcoming patients from all backgrounds.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, exploring new cuisines, and spending time with her family. After time on both coasts and in the Midwest, Dr. Ismail is excited to rediscover Minnesota and build lasting relationships with her patients and colleagues in the Twin Cities.
