Why We Love “The Crown”

Are you as excited for season 2 of “The Crown” as we are?

This award-winning Netflix series, starting Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, turns history and biography into true must-see drama. With outstanding acting and directing and insight into royal relations, the first season followed the Queen into office and marriage and highlighted the challenges of family life and royal duties. The full series is intended to last 60 episodes over six seasons.

Following are some of the reasons that our staff just loves this show:

“Initially, what drew me in was a fascination with the royal family. The history, the opulence, the luxury, the pomp and circumstance…The acting and visually stunning production keeps me watching. The actors and ensemble cast are amazing. Claire Foy and John Lithgow were lauded for their respective roles as Queen Elizabeth and Winston Churchill and the accolades were absolutely well-deserved. The performances will captivate and mesmerize you,” mused Kristin Larson, Clinic Sofia’s accounts receivable representative and surgery scheduler. “Season 1 follows the transformation of Elizabeth Windsor, a young 25-year-old wife and mother who happens to also be a Princess, to Queen Elizabeth, who has reigned the past 65 years and officially has the longest rule of the British monarchy. This is why watching ‘The Crown’ has also cemented Queen Elizabeth as a feminist icon for me. When Prince Philip asked if he was exempt from following royal protocol to bow before his wife, ‘Are you my wife or my Queen?’ the Queen diplomatically replied, “I am both. And a strong man would be able to kneel to both.” QUEEN indeed. I loved it and cannot wait until Season 2.”

“The Queen fascinates me. She is pulled in a million directions and somehow keeps her composure through it all. She is expected to be wife, mother, sister and daughter all while running an entire country! She is continuously juggling home life versus work life – isn’t this what all of us do on a daily basis? There is so much on her shoulders and she still manages to keep it all together. As a wife, mother, sister and career woman, I am always trying to manage the work/life balance,” said Dawn Miles, RN at Clinic Sofia. “While Queen Elizabeth was struggling to choose family or country, her husband Phillip once said, ‘Be a living breathing thing. A woman, a sister, a daughter, a wife.’ In that moment, you see Elizabeth realize she has been out of touch with these things while so focused on politics. She has to maintain her femininity while standing her ground against the mostly male populated governing bodies including the church. I love and respect her for this!”

Season 2 of “The Crown” premieres on Netflix on Dec. 8 – we hope you will be watching with us!
